The Shanti Stupa was built by Buddhists ,Japanese and Ladakh Buddhist community. The Original idea was given by one of the Fujii Guruji (Nichidatsu Fujii) in the end of 1913 and the main motive was to build a Peace Pagodas and temples all over the world and try to reawaken Buddhism back in India
Since the time of inauguration, Shanti Stupa has become a popular tourist destination for tourist.It is the most famous tourist attraction in Leh, though its architectural design is different from the local Ladakhi design. The Shanti Stupa overlooks the whole city of Leh. It also providing panoramic views of the the Namgyal Tsemo,Changspa village in the distance and the surroundance of beautyful mountains. Tourist comes to see the amazing sunrise and sunset from Shanti Stupa. At night, the whole stupa is gleamed with lights. The tourists timing to see shanti stupa is from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Shanti stupa is situated at a height of 11,841 ft and located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Leh on an abrupt face towards the Leh Palace.The stupa can be reached by a road or by foot using a series of 500 inclined steps to reach the stupa at the top of the hill.
